Nick & Charles Kenny wrote that song and "Satchmo" ruined it, by turning it into a comedy number. The original, Dad seemed to think, was sung by TEX RITTER. It was a ballad. Dad had a TV & AM RADIO show, and later years, an FM radio show, on Fishin' and Hunting. He also had LEE'S FLIES, (fly fishing popping-bugs & gnats, skunks, Tellicoe-Nymps, etc). The man repaired fishing and camping equipment, built custom fishing rods, repaired all kinds of fishing reels, and was also a Gunsmith. GONE FISHIN' was his "Theme Song", (back before TV came out. WRGP asked Him to be on their new TV technology.) I had the original 78 of that song and my ex-wife broke it in a million pieces out of spite, and I haven't been able to find a copy of it. I checked at the station, and the DJ said he had it on CASSETTE, but when the station went digital, that the cassette wasn't made of it and they were all discarded. Back to square one. Do you reckon you could look thru your archives and see if you have, " GONE FISHIN' " by TEX RITTER...?
